EGLE required our client to mitigate impacted wetlands due to the expansion of a facility within the wetland and floodplain. The Restoration Area was designed by Niswander Environmental to occur at a previously authorized wetland fill associated with a site that was no longer in use, located along Coon Creek. The wetland restoration is adjacent to Coon Creek which ultimately flows to the Clinton River. The restored wetland filters pollutants from the water before entering Coon Creek as well as provides additional stormwater storage and nutrient uptake. The majority of the site was formerly wetland with hydric soils and a high-water table and is surrounded by existing wetlands. The creation of a scrub-shrub wetland in this location will improve wildlife habitat significantly from its former developed condition.
